New Licensing System for Citect Drivers
With the launch of Plant SCADA Server 2023, Aveva has introduced a new licensing system that affects Citect drivers. This change has led to several users experiencing issues with their existing licenses. To resolve this, a new approach for licensing third-party drivers has been implemented, meaning that licenses are now based on a system ID or computer ID instead of the previous DongleID.
Along with the launch of Plant SCADA Server 2023, Aveva has implemented a new licensing system. This change has caused several users to lose access to their installed driver licenses. After multiple attempts to resolve the issue, we have decided that the licensing system for third-party drivers needs to be updated. Instead of reading the DongleID from existing libraries as before, we now read a system ID or computer ID directly from the current computer. This ID is then translated into a Key ID and a Serial ID.
Key ID and Serial ID are obtained in the same way as before by selecting “Register” in the installation dialog box.
To allow begcomm to create the specific license key for your Citect driver, we need the Key ID or Serial ID. You can either take a screenshot of the information or copy it to your clipboard and send it via email to begcomm.
Alternatively, you can use the small program CitectKeyInfo, which can be downloaded from our download page.
CitectKeyInfo is an easy-to-use program that reads information from the hardware in your computer, including the hard drive’s serial number and parts of the MAC address. This information is then processed using an algorithm to generate a computer ID or system ID, which is displayed as the Key ID and Serial ID in the program.
The advantage of using CitectKeyInfo is that begcomm can deliver the license key before the driver installation is carried out.
The new licensing system is the same system used in the well-known alarm system Nimbus from Trosoft AB.
